Example: Adjusting Border Width and Color

Border Width

  • You can increase or decrease the width of the border to suit the cutting job. A thicker border is often used for larger pieces to help prevent them from breaking apart during the cut.

Border Color

  • The border color is equally important, especially when dealing with cut pieces. To avoid accidental cuts or misalignment, the border color should match the layer or piece you want to keep.

Best Practices for Border Configuration

When Cutting a Piece

  • Matching Border Color to the Layer:

When working with a piece that has multiple features (e.g., land-fill and water-fill), ensure that the border color matches the layer color you want to preserve.

  • For example, if you are cutting a land piece, set the border color to the same color as the land-fill. This ensures that the border becomes part of the trace and will stay connected to the land area during the cutting process.

  • The water-fill (or any other feature) will be cut away and fall out, leaving only the land section intact.

Exception: Small Islands or Isolated Areas

  • If there are small islands or isolated features within a layer that are surrounded by water and not touching any other pieces of land or border, these will not be cut out as part of the main land section.
  • In this case, you will need to transfer the small island or isolated area to the land layer separately to ensure it is cut out properly.

Summary

Setting the correct border color and width is crucial when preparing layers for laser cutting. Ensure that the border color matches the layer you want to keep, and remember to account for isolated features that may need to be handled separately.
